Dressings

Different wounds need different dressings, and picking the right one matters for healing. We carry foam, alginate, hydrocolloid, hydrogel, transparent film, xeroform gauze, and wound closure strips. Match the dressing to what the wound is doing

Start with drainage. A dry wound that needs to heal wants a dressing that adds and holds moisture, while a heavily draining wound wants one that pulls fluid away and locks it in so the surrounding skin doesn't break down. Get that match wrong and the wound either dries out or stays too wet, and either way it stalls.

The other half is what the dressing has to do at the skin. Fragile skin needs something that lifts off without tearing, a fresh surgical site needs a clean sterile dressing, and a wound you have to keep an eye on needs something you can see through without taking it off. And the cheapest dressing isn't always the cheapest. One that stays put for three days usually beats a cheaper one you're changing every morning, once you count the labor.

Choosing the right dressing starts with understanding the wound. A clean surgical incision needs something different than a pressure ulcer with heavy drainage. Foam dressings absorb moisture and cushion the wound bed, making them a good fit for moderate to heavy exudate. Alginate dressings, made from seaweed fiber, are designed for highly draining wounds and pack well into deeper cavities. Hydrocolloid dressings create a moist healing environment for low-drainage wounds like minor burns or superficial pressure injuries. Hydrogel works the other way around, adding moisture to dry wounds that need help granulating. Transparent film dressings like Tegaderm protect IV sites and shallow wounds while letting you monitor healing without removing the dressing. And xeroform gauze provides a non-stick, petroleum-based layer for burns, skin grafts, and surgical sites.

If you're buying wound care supplies for a hospice or nursing home, we carry these dressings in case quantities so you can keep your supply room stocked without reordering every week. Our calcium alginate dressings and silicone foam dressings are the same products used in hospitals and long-term care facilities across California. Bulk wound dressings for facilities are available at competitive per-unit pricing, and we can work with your team to match products to your current formulary.

For home caregivers, even one or two of the right dressings can make wound care simpler and less stressful. If you're not sure what your wound needs, our clinical advisors can walk you through it.
