The Kerae Unna Boot is a medicated cotton-gauze dressing impregnated with a paste containing zinc oxide, calamine, glycerin, and other protective ingredients. Its conformable design supports professional wound-care protocols for venous leg ulcers and ambulatory compression of lower-extremity edema.
The paste-treated gauze helps maintain a moist wound environment while zinc oxide and calamine help soothe and protect the surrounding skin. Once applied, the dressing conforms closely to the contours of the foot, ankle, and lower leg, providing semi-rigid support.
For application, position the foot at a right angle and begin wrapping without pressure at the base of the toes. Continue upward using a spiral technique with approximately 50% overlap, finishing just below the knee. Smooth the dressing into place and secure it with an appropriate secondary dressing, such as a cohesive bandage, elastic bandage or gauze roll.
After application, check the exposed toes for normal color and warmth to ensure circulation is not being restricted. Keep the dressing dry. The dressing may be worn for up to seven days when directed by a qualified healthcare provider and should be changed if drainage reaches the outer wrap or as otherwise instructed.
