Commodes

If getting to the bathroom safely has become a challenge, a bedside commode can make a real difference. We carry standard bedside commodes, raised toilet seats, and drop arm commodes that make transfers easier from a wheelchair or walker. Some of our models double as shower chairs, so you get more use out of a single piece of equipment. Whether it's for recovery after surgery or everyday use, we can help you find the right fit.

Match the commode to how the resident transfers

How the person transfers drives most of the call. Someone who can still walk a few steps with help does fine on a standard bedside commode parked in the bedroom, and a steel-frame version holds up better under heavier daily use. If they can reach the bathroom but struggle to lower down, a raised toilet commode adds the height that takes the strain off the knees and hips.

The shower and combo units are for the harder cases. A commode with a footrest lets one chair cover both bathing and toileting, and a four-wheel shower commode rolls from the bedroom into the shower, so there's no risky transfer in a wet room. For someone who needs full back support through a longer session, the reclining model leans back without moving them off the seat.

Choosing the right commode comes down to a few things: how the person transfers, where it will be used, and whether you need it to serve more than one purpose. A drop arm commode is a good choice when someone is transferring from a wheelchair, because the arms swing out of the way for a safer lateral slide. If space is tight or you need something portable, a standard bedside commode folds flat and stores easily. For bathrooms, a raised toilet seat or commode that fits over the existing toilet can add height and stability without replacing anything.

Weight capacity matters. Most of our commodes support 250 to 300 pounds, but check the specs if you need something rated higher. Height-adjustable legs are standard on most models, which helps get the seat to a comfortable position for the user. If you're setting up for someone who also needs help bathing, a commode shower chair combination handles both tasks and saves room.

For nursing homes, hospice programs, and assisted living communities, commodes are essential everyday equipment. A drop arm bedside commode is especially useful in rooms where residents need staff assistance with transfers. We carry aluminum and steel frame options that work for facility orders. If you're outfitting multiple rooms or replacing worn units, we can help with bulk pricing.
